Heartbreak
there is almost no path a human being can follow that does not lead to heartbreak
I started Heartbreak at the Broadmoor hotel in Colorado Springs, sitting in a luxurious armchair by a window framing a perfect vision of the Rocky Mountains. The morning was its own perfection; the coffee deeply satisfying and to top it off I had my work waiting for me later that day: a talk to a large group of people on my most heartfelt subject: poetry.
I was filled with a sense of opportunity and privilege and giftedness and at the same time the absolutely precarious nature of happiness; the sense that everything eventually will be taken away - which led to an even further, more difficult understanding - that having given our gift, we may no longer be looked for as its source.
