Summary from the July 9th Three Sundays Session
Almost always, we meet new revelations in our lives in a very physical part of the body, whether it is through the butterflies of happy anticipation or the nausea of dread.
What is invisible, is simply what cannot be perceived, but something that often lies around us all the time. We often think of the invisible as some kind of ‘magic nowhere’, a parallel world out of which angels and various entities might appear. But we might also think of it in very practical terms in the sense that we are surrounded by contexts and spectra of experience that we often can't quite discern. We all know, from scientific evidence that animals and birds see spectra of colour and the outlines of our world in ways that are completely different from our own. What we see is only one part of what is actually extant in the world. This is true in our very practical personal lives too. We all know the way that we suddenly see what is actually going on in a dramatic situation and then realize that it has been going on for years.
The essence of this series, INVISIBLE is centered on a subtle unspoken dynamic that is difficult to describe but that has been at the heart of my lived experience and at the center of many a break through decision but which until now I have not fully articulated, that is, in order to create a life of full agency in this world, we not only have to put what we know of ourselves in conversation with the world but also what lies below the horizon of our inner understanding in conversation with what lies beyond the horizon of our outer understandings of the world. In a way, we have to put the invisible inside us in a meeting with the invisible world just waiting for our comprehension. I have recently realized that this might be the heart of what we call mystical experience, but it is also the very foundation of a practical ability to make things happen in the world 'as if out of nowhere'. It is the attempt to put the invisible and unspoken inside us in conversation with the invisible that lies beyond us, out of which something surprisingly visible can suddenly come into form.
