This one is different for you, I think. There is a playful craft here that almost winks as it carries its weight. Still, I found myself wanting to read the next line, “And when we write of men…”
It’s not lost on me that the page for which you speak came from trees. I especially like the branches as blank spaces between words. Thank you for honoring my friends, the trees 🌳
Beautiful, David - the trees I so treasure, I live amongst in my cottage... and this poem reminds me why I love to write, read and carry with me the memories and reminders of woods... sometimes just tiny scraps of paper or back of napkins from a restaurant!! This is really a wonderful look about savoring!! Thank you.
One of the many ways I have navigated the process of unlearning and relearning these last seven years is engaging with a wide variety of forms of art. It really accelerates our ability to adapt and reframe the way we see and relate to the wider world and of course ourselves. And of course there is the added bonus of giving myself permission to engage in the things that give me joy…in the name of my work. The future looks good from where I am standing right now.

I really like this poem. I love physical tree presentations that come with the lines ie ‘hurled over the page’.
Or: We meet the tree in the progress of the poem. I missed a bird or a nest or a possum but then we had leaves many, trunk roots and age.
I just had a massage so I can’t do it justice… she’s a beauty! I love trees too.🤎💚💚💚
