I was slow to get my head around this poem’s linguistic threads woven through the verses but I just kept reading. David speaks of the dark memory we carry around with us like a fire burning; things and people we have refused to love but which have not gone away. They wait patiently for us to face them before that final night in the dark mountains where we come to terms, we breathe life into the warm embers of memories that formed our lives and gather the darkness around us at last, without fear. And it holds us forever and wraps us in the dark blanket of night from which we were born. From darkness we return to darkness. Not a negative dark but more one of welcome and mystery. I may not experience life in exactly the way David describes in this poem, but I love its imagery and language and the truth it expresses. We all have to lean down finally and breathe life into the still-warm embers of our lives that have waited patiently to be seen and felt.
These concepts you bring to life with mere words bring me to tears. You have called to something very deep that still lives. Forever grateful for your words and craft. ❤️
You always remind me and teach me about Belonging. How we are not only a part of it but belong to the whole of it. Bless you for that.

"tell me about everyone
and everything
you refused to love."
This line always shakes me and I find it difficult to turn toward. Yet it returns again and again after I read it. Powerful.
Wonderful, gives me a sense of connectedness with everything, thank you x
